Louis Wayne was a British artist who became known for his humanized cats, which he began painting in 1886. After his mother died, he began to develop schizophrenia. He became moody, sometimes behaved aggressively and developed a distrust of his sisters. In 1924 he was admitted to the poor ward in the "Springfield Mental Hospital". As a result of his illness, his cat pictures changed so that they eventually showed almost only eyes surrounded by wild ornamentation.
